Many Sheffield United fans have been reminiscing about Glyn Hodges’ time with the Blades, as Monday marked 28 years to the day since his memorable strike against Notts County in 1992.
Hodges scored several screamers throughout his spell at Bramall Lane, and this vintage example is certainly no exception to the rule.

The club’s official Twitter account uploaded archive footage of his sensational effort at Meadow Lane. Taking a short pass from Brian Deane outside the box, the former Welsh international let loose with a long-range scorcher, thumping the ball into the back of the net past the helpless Magpies goalkeeper, Steven Cherry (Football Database). His goal put the game well beyond Neil Warnock’s side, as the final scoreline ended 3-1.
Having joined the South Yorkshire outfit from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window, Hodges went on to make 75 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 7 goals. The 56-year-old is currently in charge of AFC Wimbledon.
Naturally, a large portion of the SUFC fan base reacted to the club’s tweet, with one supporter describing the goal as “unbelievable scenes,” whilst another suggested Hodges was a “class act.”
