The latest news surrounding goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will excite fans of Sheffield United as just a week after him signing for £18.5m, he has managed to receive an international call up.
Ramsdale has been called up to the England U21 squad for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Kosovo and Austria.
Following the squad being confirmed manager Aidy Boothroyd spoke about the upcoming fixtures and said, “We’re all really looking forward to meeting up for the first time since November.”
“We have two testing away matches against our closest rivals in the group and it’ll be a good opportunity for the players to come together again, even if it will be an unusual experience with no crowds at either of the fixtures.”
The 22 year-old was signed by the Blades from AFC Bournemouth after he performed well in his debut campaign in England’s top flight last season. Even though he couldn’t keep the Cherries up he definitely was one of few who shone for the side as he kept five clean sheets and made 129 saves, which was the third-highest in the Premier League.
His performances clearly did not go unnoticed by the Blades who signed him and also by England, and the fact that he is in the U21 squad means that Gareth Southgate will be keeping an eye to see how he performs and if he does well he could get promoted to the senior set up soon.
This news bodes well for the Blades as it shows supporters that Chris Wilder has done some good business as Ramsdale clearly has a bright future and should be in for a good season with the Blades. If he starts for Boothroyd, then those associated with United will be keeping an eye on his performance for England.
