Sheffield United player John Lundstram was on top form last season as he picked up five goals and three assists for the side from midfield. However there has been recent transfer speculation surrounding his future, and Chris Wilder has provided an update on his future.
Speaking via the Yorkshire Post, Wilder said, ‘There is no issue. I have spoken with John at length in pre-season and I have a fully-committed player who pulls a shirt on and wants to give his best for himself and his team-mates and football club.
“Things change quickly. There’s obviously an offer on the table for John. I think John just wants to get on and see what happens and I am okay with that.
“He did great for us last year and he has got to play well to get in the team this year. There is no down-side (doubt) in him not leaving everything out there when he plays. We will just see how the situations develops and move forward.
“We have not had any enquiries or offers for John. I would be the first to tell him and his agent if we had. The first phone call would be to John and our board and they would ask me what I think of it. But nothing has happened and there is nothing to report back on.”
He has been linked with a move to Glasgow Rangers and some fellow Premier League sides are also interested but for now it seems that Wilder is not worried about him potentially leaving.
This is good news for fans of the Blades as apart from his goals and assists, his in-game stats show how vital he was for the club last season as he managed on average 1.3 shots, 1.4 tackles and 1 interception a game, via WhoScored.
However he is only currently at the club because the Blades were able to trigger a clause in his contract which meant they could extend his deal which was meant to run out this summer by a year.
The only issue with the news is the fact that there is an offer on the table that the player has not accepted yet, so until then, the thought of him potentially walking away for nothing is going to weigh on the minds of all associated with the club.
Hopefully the issue gets sorted rather than later so that Wilder can stop receiving questions on the matter and Lundstram can focus on his football.
