Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has admitted that they really missed Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick in their October international fixtures (Daily Echo).
The 31-year-old was absent for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Switzerland and Georgia due to injury.
McGoldrick has been a key player for the Irish during their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign and had started in all five of their matches prior to last month (Transfermarkt).
In that time he had managed to register a couple of assists against Gibraltar, whilst also scoring a vital equaliser against Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium (Transfermarkt).
However, he was struggling with injury last month and was forced to miss their two matches, and it is fair to say that they missed him.

Indeed, they failed to score against both Georgia and Switzerland (Transfermarkt), and McCarthy has admitted recently that losing him definitely had an impact.
“I would always prefer to have my best players playing, and he has been our stand-out centre-forward, so any team of any ilk, any stature would miss a player like him, especially how he was playing, and he was loving it,” said McCarthy (via Daily Echo).
There is no doubt that the Republic of Ireland missed McGoldrick last time out, and it seems almost certain that he will start their crunch match against Denmark.
The former Ipswich Town man has been outstanding recently for Sheffield United and was unfortunate not to register his first Premier League goal against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday when his strike was harshly ruled out by VAR (BBC Sport).
McCarthy will be hoping for a big performance from his centre-forward, with qualification the reward if they beat the Danes.
