Sheffield United look set to complete the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn.
According to a report from the Sheffield Star, the Blades are edging closer to completing a deal to land the Reds midfielder, with talks reportedly reaching an advanced stage.
Osborn has been with boyhood club Forest his entire career, but with new manager Sabri Lamouchi in place and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United having Premier League money in the bank, it appears the Reds are willing to sell the 24-year-old.
The versatility of Osborn will surely appeal to Blades manager Chris Wilder, with the player having made 94 appearances as a left-winger, 64 as a central midfielder and 34 as a left-back (via Transfermarkt). Throw in a further 14 as a second striker and 11 as an attacking midfielder and it’s clear the player has a certain tactical understanding and one that allows him to fill in a number of positions.
Considering the fact Callum Robinson – another player with a number of career appearances in various positions – has also joined the Blades, versatility is clearly a trait Wilder likes in a player.
Only three players in their squad made more key passes per game (1.3) than Osborn last season and only four made more tackles (1.8) than him over the same period so, while there clearly is a step up in quality in terms of division, the 24-year-old would arrive with the potential to mix it with the best of their current options.
