Sheffield Wednesday pocketed a ‘low six-figure sum’ from the sale of winger Andre Green, according to Yorkshire Live journalist Dom Howson.
The lowdown
It was confirmed on Thursday that Green had sealed a move to Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava, who are bidding for a place in this season’s Europa League.
Former Aston Villa player Green only joined Wednesday in January, signing an 18-month deal (via Yorkshire Live).
He went on to make 14 appearances for the Owls, but only six of those were starts (via WhoScored).
The 23-year-old becomes the third player to leave Hillsborough on a paid transfer this summer after youngsters Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide both left to join Celtic for a combined fee of £518,000 (via Transfermarkt).

Howson tweeted that ‘I am told’ about the transfer fee SWFC have pocketed and offered a ballpark figure of ‘low six figures’.
He considers it a ‘good move for all parties’, with Green ‘disappointed’ by his lack of involvement and Wednesday able to call on ‘plenty of options’ in his position.
The verdict
We don’t know the exact fee, but anything up close £500,000 should be considered a win for the Owls.
Green may have helped Villa reach the Premier League, but he’s struggled to make any real progress. In fact, he hasn’t actually registered a goal or an assist since the 2019/20 season when he was on loan at Charlton.
Having added Marvin Johnson and Sylla Sow to their ranks this summer, it was probably wise for Wednesday to sanction the sale and boost the coffers.
