The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story in The Yorkshire Evening Post that talks about how the signing of Kyle Bartley is now looking unlikely as Swansea slip towards relegation. Bartley was fantastic for Leeds on-loan in the 2016/17 although they failed to secure his services permanently in the following window.

The Leeds fans propping our bar up believed that their best chance of a playoff place was last season. The Whites had Chris Wood scoring goals from everywhere and had an incredible defensive partnership of Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley. The club look destined to finish in the top six until they ultimately failed and ended up failing as they’ve extended their stay in the Championship to nine straight years as of next season.
The fans will be hoping that next year actually can be their year, although it could hinge on the signing of Kyle Bartley. The Elland Road faithful will be lucky to hold onto Swedish international, Jansson for much longer and will need to gain promotion to the Premier League if they are to keep him on board. With a severe lack of a decent partner for the Swede, it’s hard to see a way for the club to go up with Jansson leading the defence line alone. The club will have to recruit a new centre-back, whether it’s Bartley or not.
