Middlesborough are pushing hard for promotion this year after narrowly missing out last campaign, and they’re doing a predictably solid job of it under the guidance of Tony Pulis.
Indeed, Pulis’ defensive work is something to behold, with the club only conceding eight goals so far this term – which is by far the lowest in the league.
However, at what cost has this come?
Their attacking play, for one, is considerably behind that of the teams surrounding them, having only managed a meagre 19 goals. And their style of football is, well, typically Pulis-esque.
With the January transfer window approaching, Boro will be looking to bring in a couple of players who can spruce up the squad and improve their chances of promotion this year. That said, here are the two we believe Pulis should seriously consider…
Scott Sinclair
It’s very apparent that Middlesborough are missing the pace and creativity of Adama Traore following his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this year.
Yes, Downing does a job on the wing, and he’s been playing well recently, but he’s getting on now and the physical side of his game is clearly waning.
It would prove to be hugely beneficial for the club if they brought in Scott Sinclair who, despite having a very positive few years in Scotland for Celtic, seems to be enjoying his time there less and less.
He possesses the traits Boro are currently missing in their forward line, such as pace and agility, and could be the man to reboot their offensive efforts.
Ali Reghba
Sources from within Football Insider suggest that Middlesborough and Leeds United are keen on signing Bohemians forward Ali Reghba.
The 18-year-old has been making waves in the League of Ireland so far this season, memorably scoring two goals on his first-team debut.
From what we’ve seen from Reghba, his finishing, positional awareness and agility are the strongest elements of his game. And, even if he doesn’t manage to break his way into the first-team immediately he’ll provide healthy competition for current strikers.
Reghba is currently on a two week trial at Boro so things could happen quickly from now…
