Some Southampton fans have replied to the club’s tweet wishing defender Wesley Hoedt a happy birthday with mixed opinions on the players time at the South Coast.
Hoedt signed from Lazio for £14.40 million in the summer of 17/18 but failed to make any real impact at the club. (Transfermarkt) The Dutch centre-back never really was a consistent starter and has been sent out numerous times on loan. He is currently on loan at Royal Antwerp, who are in the Belgian division and has played 20 times for the club.
Today is his 26th birthday and fans have not forgotten his disappointing 41 performances at the Premier League club, including his two own goals across the 2018/19 season.
With Southampton being linked to centre-back Jack Cooper this week (Football Insider) and Hoedt not playing for the Saints since December 2018, it looks like the Dutch centre-back will have to look for a permanent move in the summer if he wants to be playing football consistently.
