Southampton supporters have been reasonably quiet in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side produce another underwhelming performance to draw 1-1 at South Coast rivals Brighton at the AMEX Stadium last weekend.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s men went into their clash with the Seagulls having won three of their opening nine Premier League games but only scoring eight goals in the process, yet they soon made that nine when Steven Davis gave them a seventh minute lead. However, the visitors were unable to bag that crucial second goal and were ultimately made to pay as Glenn Murray rose highest to head home Pascal Gross’ excellent cross to secure a point for Chris Hughton’s side.
Thus, several of our resident Saints fans have been bemoaning their team’s inability to get all three points from their trip to the AMEX on Sunday, but many are already turning their attentions to a vital home clash against Sean Dyche’s Burnley on Saturday, knowing that victory over the Clarets would send Pellegrino’s men above them in the league table.
And a number of those hardy Southampton fans lining up at the bar have also been speculating upon who their club may look to sign in the upcoming January window, so they’ll surely be intrigued by recent reports linking them with a move for ex-Saints defender Luke Shaw.
The 22-year-old made the move to Manchester United from St Mary’s back in 2014 but things simply haven’t worked out for the England international at Old Trafford, especially since Jose Mourinho took over little over a year ago.
And as such his future with the Red Devils is far from certain, and reports suggest that he could return to Southampton in January in a bid to command the regular football he needs to get back to his best level.
And news of a possible reunion with Shaw has stimulated quite a response from Saints fans on Twitter, with it fair to say that they are split about a potential deal for the left-back…
Shaw needs to come home and remake his career, would be warm welcomed back too #SaintsFC

Shaw would be overpriced, over weight and on too high a salary. Would be a terrible move.

He made his bed, let him rot in it

Wouldn’t be totally against it, but would need to prove his fitness first, but won’t be able to when not playing at United

The problem is, if things went well, he’d use us as a springboard for another move. If it didn’t go well, we’d be stuck with his wages.

Yes please.

No chance we’d never meet his wage demands. He’ll go to @SpursOfficial for sure as he and Poch are still close
