Many Southampton fans have been left to slam the display of Danny Ings in their 1-1 home draw with Chelsea in the Premier League at Saturday lunchtime.
Takumi Minamino, currently on loan from Liverpool, gave Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men the lead at St. Mary’s Stadium in the first half with a very well-taken goal, before Mason Mount equalised in the second from the penalty spot.
Should Southampton start Ings?
Ings committed a rather silly foul in the box and did not have the best of games in general by his high standards.
The England international lost out on no fewer than 14 of his duels in the match, the most lost out of any player to have set foot on the pitch, and also failed to record a single shot on target, successful dribble or key pass, while losing possession of the ball 14 times (Sofascore).
He really failed to have any real influence on the clash, recording fewer touches than his own goalkeeper in Alex McCarthy, in what was a frustrating day for the 28-year-old.
Southampton fan reaction to Ings display
These Saints slammed his performance on Twitter, with a couple of supporters even going as far as to say that he was ‘poor’:
“Such an unnecessary tackle from Ings. We all know how this game end #Saintsfc #SOUCHE”
“Stupid from Ings #SaintsFC #SOUCHE”
“Worst player today was Ings, his only contribution was to concede a penalty. #SaintsFC”
“Happy with a point today but very poor performance from an attacking sense, Ings was our worst player today, offered nothing and gave away a stupid pen, hope Southgate wasn’t watching! #saintsfc”
“#SaintsFC Ings looks bang average and off the pace, we are so so poor.”
“Ings with a reckless challenge there. Poor from him. Tough ask now. #SaintsFC”
