Southampton’s proposed training camp in Miami is now ‘up in the air’ after the appointment of Nathan Jones, according to The Athletic journalist Jacob Tanswell.
The Lowdown: Plans being assessed
Following today’s Premier League game against Liverpool, the Saints will now enter the World Cup break with six weeks of solid preparations under their new manager.
Former boss Ralph Hasenhuttl had previously suggested that plans to go away during the hiatus in domestic action were being considered, although has now been a fresh update regarding the possible trip in question.
The Latest: Tanswell’s update on Miami trip
Taking to Twitter, Tanswell was asked whether Southampton would be going abroad during the break due to it being briefly mentioned before.
He replied: “Up in the air at the moment – the plan was Miami but the camp may not happen due to recent changes!”
The Verdict: Much-needed break
Southampton have won just one of their last 10 league games, so even though this break comes at an unusual time in the middle of the season, it should prove to be hugely beneficial.
Jones will be able to use this time to his advantage and get his message across to the squad about the tactics and style of play that he wants to implement as the club moves in a new direction with the 49-year-old at the helm.
The Saints have found themselves a lot closer to the bottom of the table than they would have liked this season, although hopefully this could change with a fresh start upon the return of top-flight action just after Christmas.
