Quoted by The Daily Mail, Southampton player Nathan Redmond has said he is still adapting to his new role up front, leaving our Saints fans here in the Transfer Tavern excited to see how he does when he’s fully used to it.
The Englishman was a summer signing for the Saints and it was expected by many that he’d be used as a winger but instead he has found himself starting alongside Shane Long and, more recently, Charlie Austin.
He has impressed, too, so far this season with our locals saying he could be one of the signings of the season already at this early stage.
On his new position the winger-turned-striker said: “I’m learning a new position. I’m playing up front. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will I transferring into becoming a striker. I’m learning daily in training and learning during the games as well.
“He [Puel] made it clear he wasn’t going to play with wide players, but he also made it clear that he’d watched me before and seen me play, so he knew I had the potential to play there [up front].
” It was about trying it in pre-season and once it came to the first couple of games of the season he told me I was going to be playing there. It was either adapt and learn or sit on the sidelines, and I’m never going to shy away from a challenge.”
The former Norwich has scored two goals in his last two games against Burnley and Manchester City respectively and will be looking to add to that tally over the coming weeks.
The Saints host Sunderland in the EFL Cup before playing Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
