Tottenham could be set to land a real talent with Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes reportedly set to choose them over Manchester United.
According to the Daily Mail, Fernandes has made his mind up about his move to the Premier League, and has chosen to work with Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United outfit.
Fernandes has long been touted for a move throughout the summer and now, according to the report from the Mail, the 24-year-0ld has told Sporting Lisbon of his desire to leave the club and move to London as he looks to make the jump into the Premier League.
The attacking midfielder was the standout player for Lisbon last season as he knocked in an impressive 20 league goals to further enhance his reputation within the European market.
Indeed, Fernandes’ stats stack up very nicely when compared to Spurs’ most creative player in Christian Eriksen, with Fernandes averaging 3.6 shots and 3.2 key passes per game (WhoScored) in comparison to the Dane’s 2.7 and 2.3 respectively. In fact, in an extensive scout report on him written by Total Football Analysis, his ability to arrive late into the box and provide goal support from midfield is compared to the likes of Frank Lampard.
This could prove a real coup for Tottenham if a deal can be done. With Vincent Janssen having left and Fernando Llorente only bagging 8 goals last season, Harry Kane remains without an experienced back-up and, while Fernandes isn’t a striker, the fact he can provide a palpable goal threat may help ease any burden on the England man.
