Albeit they came up short in the end, Tottenham supporters would have still been delighted with their side’s Champions League journey.
For one former Spurs player, though, whether it is the Champions League or another trophy, the north London club have to win something quickly if they are to keep hold of Mauricio Pochettino.
Let us take a look at what exactly he has had to say in this instalment of our Pundit’s Choice feature.
“From a Tottenham point of view, his longevity at the club will mean him needing to win something at the club to stay there,” Stephen Kelly told talkSPORT.
“Because his stock is getting higher and higher and it’s going to be harder and harder for them to keep hold of him because people will come knocking on his door.
“The opportunities are gone now for like Real Madrid and Manchester United, but they will come back around and if he is still rising up that ladder, there will be teams interested.”
A pessimistic view? Perhaps. But Kelly, who has been doing some punditry work with RTE, raises a good point: the Real Madrid and Manchester United jobs will come back.
Changes in the Santiago Bernabeu and Old Trafford dugouts have been frequent over the last few years; it would not be a surprise to see that continue, with both clubs having crazy high expectations.
If either vacancy pops up in the near future, surely Pochettino will start to do some serious thinking if Tottenham continue to fall at the final hurdle?
For some, the Argentinian coach has taken this Spurs side as far as he can under Daniel Levy’s current regime. The moment that idea starts to seep into the mind of the man himself, it really could be time up.
He has done his part; it is now time for Levy to deliver in the transfer market and the players on the pitch as the club look to land their first piece of silverware since 2008. Do that and there is hope yet.
