Southampton supporters have been quite downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side throw away a two-goal lead to end up drawing 2-2 with Watford in the Premier League on Saturday, thus keeping the pressure firmly on manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
The Saints may well have gone into their clash at Vicarage Road off the back of a 1-0 success over Fulham in the FA Cup, but they had prior to that failed to win any of their preceding nine league games, a run which has seen them slip into a relegation battle. Yet they looked on course for a first victory since November as a James Ward-Prowse brace gave them a 2-0 half time lead, only for goals from Andre Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure, the latter highly controversial, to secure a point for Marco Silva’s Hornets.
Subsequently, there have been a few despondent Southampton fans in the Tavern in recent times, although they are likely to be intrigued by recent reports linking them with Monaco forward Guido Carrillo.
The 26-year-old has struggled for regular starts under Leonardo Jardim this term with just six to show for his efforts so far this season, leading to speculation regarding his future at the Stade Louis II.
And reports recently suggested that Southampton are hopeful of completing a deal for the Argentine, although it’s fair to say that the response on Twitter from Saints supporters was far from convincing…
Do we only sign players that fit the £15m tag!?

Stinks of desperation. Another out of favour foreign signing with no Orem experience in our relegation battle.

Waste of time and money. Dosent score enough goals. Play Gabbiadini with Shane Long up front.

he’s not the answer.

Great, he rarely starts for Monaco and his goal spring ratio per appearances is terrible.

So uninspiring. Another striker that will get no service from our woefully underperforming side. We especially don’t need strikers with such poor goal scoring records (in France as well).

Quick deal? We’ve been waiting for a striker for 18 months.

Its a total farce, Pellegrino has been shown to be out of his depth on allsorts, nothing to do with VVD. Crikey, loads of players have been suddenly dropped in the starting tombola. Numerous players must be unhappy due to Pellegrino. Walcott would never come here.

Quick deal… I thought it was the 17th jan?… signing yet another gamble. #saintsfc model for the past few season. Buy players from second tier leagues who r not first choice. Get managers who r out of jobs. Far from impressed

Southampton fans… what do you think? Let us know!
