Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke and as quoted by The Stoke Sentinel, Stoke City’s Peter Coates has revealed the club have no intention of selling Joe Allen with our resident Potters fans here in Transfer Tavern more than glad to hear it.
Indeed, Allen has been in fine form this season for the men from the Bet365 Stadium and has been used in a more advanced role by Mark Hughes than he is used to but it seems to have paid off so far.
Stoke signed the midfielder from Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp deemed him to be surplus to requirements, but after impressing at EURO 2016 and now for his new club side, there could be every chance that teams become interested in taking him from the team.
Coates, however, is not worried by that. He said:
“I never mind our players getting lots of attention because it means they are doing well. You ride that. He’s under contract with us, enjoying his football and he’s a big asset for us. We are not going to be selling anybody in January.
”I’m delighted for him. I don’t worry about things like that. We cross that bridge if it comes along. He’s been a great success, as everybody has seen. He’s done really well for Wales and just as well for us.”
The Potters started this season poorly but are now in full flow and are currently twelfth in the Premier League table with their good run of form coinciding with that of the former Swansea man.
Allen has four goals from his eleven Premier League appearances so far whilst he’s also set up a further two strikes in the top flight.
He’s one of the biggest cult heroes in British football right now, thanks to his heroics for both club and country.
