The punters here at the Transfer Tavern are keeping a watchful eye on this story, with Sky Sports reporting that Sunderland are preparing a bid for Bordeaux midfielder Wahbi Khazri.
Indeed, it appears that Khazri, who has got five assists for Bordeaux this season, is also catching the eyes of both Everton and Swansea. However, the Black Cats are the latest club to join the race, and, having been on the end of a 6-2 loss to Everton yesterday, will be looking to reinforce their squad considerably and wisely.
Sunderland’s recruitment in the past few years has been shoddy at best, but it appears that a move for Khazri could be a shrewd bit of business for them. Khazri, who is only 24 years old, is believed to be valued at a reasonable price of £8 million pounds.
Given his assist record, he should hopefully be able to add a bit more impetus to their attack, though on today’s evidence, it appears that Sunderland’s problems lie at both ends of the pitch.
If the Black Cats are to stay in the Premier League this season, they are certainly going to have to recruit wisely in January.
