There’s one man more than anyone else in Sunderland’s squad that our local Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern reckon can help them get out of the bottom three – Jermain Defoe.
The striker has proven himself time and time again to be a class Premier League forward and after ensuring the club stayed up last season, it looks as though he’ll have to repeat those heroics again this time around.
Certainly, Sunderland have been waiting some time for their season to get properly going but after back-to-back wins they now look ready to kick on and fight their way to safety.
Defoe, naturally, has been key to that and once again scored at the weekend as the Black Cats brushed aside Hull City 3-0 in a classic six-pointer.
That strike marked Defoe’s 150th goal in the Premier League and that just tells you how good he has been not just for the north east side, but for every club he has played at.
The saying ‘he guarantees you goals’ couldn’t ring truer with the former Spurs man and as this infographic uploaded by @OptaJoe on Twitter suggests, he’s only becoming more and more important with age.
