‘Superb signing’, ‘Danny Ings next’ – West Ham fans delighted by Journalist’s claim on Twitter

Joao Mario

The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that David Moyes will bring some fresh talent to the club this month to add depth to his relatively thin squad.

West Ham have been resurgent under Moyes since he arrived at The London Stadium to replace Slaven Bilic at the beginning of November, but their improvement could be halted in the weeks to come unless he manages to make some crucial additions to the squad before the January window slams shut. The Hammers were recently dealt a bitter blow to their survival ambitions after Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic were both ruled out through injury.

Considering the pairing are the clubs most creative and clinical attacking influences, the news has naturally provoked plenty of concern amongst the punters clad in claret and blue in the tavern.

However, their fears were eased somewhat in the last 24 hours after Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that West Ham have reached an agreement with Inter Milan to sign Joao Mario on loan this month.

The 25-year-old moved to the Nerazzurri from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2016 in a deal worth £36 million, but the Portuguese international has fallen out of favour since Luciano Spalletti took charge at the club in June 2017.

Whether Mario will be able to resurrect his career in English football remains to be seen, but based on their reaction to the news so far, the West Ham fans are certainly confident he can become a success at the club.

Here’s what the fans have had to say about the potential signing of Joao Mario on Twitter…
