‘Thank God for that’ - Leeds United fans on Twitter react to bad news for 29-year-old

The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have had the expected confirmed today. Swiss international Gaetano Berardi was given a straight red card for a two-footed challenge on Sunderland’s Callum McManaman on Saturday and has now received a five-match ban, as the mandatory three-match ban has an extra game added on for any previous red cards in the season.

The news is sure to bring mixed reactions from the Elland Road faithful. Berardi no doubt plays for the shirt when he turns out for Leeds, although to have been given your marching orders three times in a single Championship season is far from an achievement. The 29-year-old was sent off for a headbutt in Leeds 3-0 win over Bristol City back in October and received two yellow cards in the club’s 4-1 loss to Cardiff in February.

Leeds United season is set to end almost miserably as Berardi’s has, they’ve managed just two wins in their last 15 Championship games after being in contention for a playoff spot around Christmas and even having topped the table for two weeks in September. The club are now fighting for nothing and look destined to face their ninth straight season in the Championship next year as The Whites have to suffer through another season out of the Premier League.
