Eren Mitchell on Spur’s loanstar
John Bostock, 18, arrived at White Hart Lane at the age of 16 after having already made his professional league debut at Crystal Palace. The young starlet has eight England under-19 caps and is currently on loan at Hull City.
Bostock plays behind the strikers in a similar role to Rafael Van Der Vaart and Luka Modric so a fight for a place in the starting 11 will certainly be welcomed by the boss Harry Redknapp. He has the ability to beat players; he’s quick, agile and has two good feet. He can also strike a ball as Hull realised when he crashed home a 30-yard screamer in a 2-0 victory over Swansea on the opening day of the season.
His eye-catching performances in Tottenham under-18s have earned him three first team appearances at the club, with all of them coming in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup campaign. His debut coming on as a sub made him the youngest ever Spurs player at 16 years, 295 days.
After his arrival many Championship fans’ views were that he was going to be an England regular in the future. His career has started very brightly and if he keeps his feet on the ground and works hard he will be in with a chance fighting for a place at the Lane and then maybe England.
Also with the likes of Dean Parrett, Jon Obika and Steven Caulker coming through the ranks we do have a strong academy/reserves and with the right guidance these players can play a big part in the future of Tottenham Hotspur FC.
My only criticism of Bostock is that players like Jack Rodwell and Jack Wilshere have a lot more premier league experience than him and are seen in higher regard under David Moyes and Arsene Wenger respectively. Whether Harry Redknapp sees Bostock at this level we don’t know but this next season at Hull City will be crucial in the development of his Tottenham career.
