Despite a rocky start to the 2016/17 Premier League season, Tottenham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are excited about the coming season.
In addition to one of the best manager’s in the England, Spurs without doubt have some of the best individual footballers in the league – and that should be enough to carry them to a decent position in the league this season above anything else.
A strong core has been a cornerstone of Tottenham’s success in recent years, with 5 or 6 players in particular going above and beyond and really looking head and shoulders above anyone else in the Tottenham XI.
In fact, our landlord reckons that if you took a few of the biggest Tottenham stars and combined them with one or two of their purported transfer targets; they could challenge any other team in Europe in a five-a-side league.
It is a very bold claim; but we think he might just be right. But the question is – who might make it into this five-a-side team?
Lets take a look at Tottenham’s DREAM 5-a-side team, including reported target Danny Drinkwater….
GK – Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris has proven himself as one of the best goalkeepers in world football in 11-a side, so he should have no problem covering a much smaller goal in a 5-a side game.
The French keeper is the perfect man in goal; lightning fast reactions, excellent shot stopping – and crucially, decent with his feet too. A fantasy football favourite here in the Tavern.
He would be unstoppable between the sticks.
CB – Toby Alderweireld

The Belgian defender joined Tottenham for a little over £10 million last year, and he has already repaid that fee and then some for his club.
He has looked as solid as a rock, forming an excellent partnership with Jan Vertonghen in the heart of the Tottenham defence.
Alderweireld just about overtakes Vertonghen in this side due to his pace, technical brilliance and also his versatility, three key attributes that often see him dominant the defence for his club.
CM – Danny Drinkwater

Reports have emerged that Tottenham are chasing Danny Drinkwater over the last few days, with Mauricio Pochettino seemingly keen to bring more defensive stability to his midfield.
He would serve in perfect contrast to his central midfield partner in this side, offering dynamic defensive midfield play whilst also moving forward and spraying balls forward towards goal.
He was a lynchpin of the Leicester side that won the league last year, and our Landlord reckons that he would no doubt provide the same level of quality to Tottenham as they look to improve following a successful campaign last season.
CM – Dele Alli

Last season was somewhat of a coming of age for the young English midfielder, making the step up to Premier League football and grabbing it with both hands – and becoming a cult hero amongst the Tottenham faithful here in the Tavern in the process.
Was was amongst some of the best young players in England last year, and you would expect him to continue in that vein of form going forward.
His dynamic technical brilliance is essential to this team, able to dribble past players and head towards goal. He is proficient in front of goal as well as supplying the goals for his prolific front man; and when contrasted with the defensive nature of Danny Drinkwater he could play as a part of deadly duo in midfield.
FWD – Harry Kane

Who else but Harry Kane?
The prolific English front man has been Tottenham’s stand out player in recent years, winning the Premier League Golden Boot last season in yet another fantastic display.
Very few things are certain in life, but backing Harry Kane to score will almost always net you a profit.
Whatever the formation or team size; Harry Kane will get goals.
