The Everton fans are feeling downbeat in the Transfer Tavern due to their side’s failure to build a cup run across any of the three available competitions they featured in this season.
Tonight sees the return of Europa League football to our screens with just one English team left in the competition at the last-32 stage. Of course, Everton qualified for the group stages of the competition this year, but unfortunately they failed to gather any momentum in Europe during their managerial crisis which characterised the first 3 months of their season.
The Toffees European campaign was bitterly disappointing as they managed to muster up just 4 points from their 6 fixtures, and they were twice humbled by an Atalanta side who currently sit in 8th place in Serie A.
Domestically, Sam Allardyce has dragged Everton out of a hole and more or less secured their Premier League status for another season, but he failed to lead his side into the 4th round of the FA Cup against their Merseyside rivals Liverpool at the beginning of January.
Everton’s exit from both the Europa League and the FA Cup has handed them a two week break from football before they travel to face Watford a week on Saturday, so the club have taken the opportunity to take a short mid-season break in Dubai.
The Dubai visit has been well documented by the club on Twitter, and it’s fair to say the fans are far from happy with the luxurious trip their players are receiving as a consequence of failing to progress in the aforementioned cup competitions this season.
