As journalists such as Jacob Steinburg have pointed out, life at West Ham has turned sour on and off the pitch in recent weeks and, at their current rate, the prospect of relegation has a very realistic chance of happening.
A call from Steve Lomas for the fans to show support for the club and the team may therefore seem like the right thing to do but there aren’t many Hammers supporters who agree with his point of view. Indeed, it’s fair to say the former club captain hasn’t exactly gone about things the right way by defending the owners, stating that they haven’t acted out of “malice”, which really misses the point altogether according to some of the reaction.

Fans are frustrated because of mistakes, broken promises and a dim future, with no clear plan in place to take the club forward – going back to David Moyes as manager is a perfect example of that. As a result, there has been a bit of a backlash to Lomas’ comments and general disagreement with his view, with some supporters pointing to negatives the board have produced whether they intended to or not.

I agree to a point. Of course the owners don’t WANT us to struggle. They want to make as much money for themselves as possible. However, what they have and more importantly haven’t done is causing us to struggle. That’s the point.

Hes completely missed the point. Despite their (misguided) best intentions, they are unable to tun the club successfully. That’s it. They are not good enough to be a top class footballing outfit. It’s simple and one of the problems is they are surrounded by half baked yes men.

I met him and had a chat about the owners not long before Slav got the sack. He was less than complimentary and basically echoed most of the gripes we’ve always had. These comments are disappointing from him. But he has a working relationship to preserve I guess.

The protest is not just about what’s happen this season. It’s been building up over the years and it’s more about how the club is run and their efforts to the targets that they, themselves set.
