The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have had a mixed season so far…
The Toffees have blown a little hot and cold at times this season and the biggest task for manager Ronald Koeman will be to now find some sort of consistent form throughout the whole of the second half of the season.
With the transfer window now open once again, talk inside the pub has quickly turned to who the Dutchman should bring in this winter. The Toffees still have every chance of mounting a push for the top-six but they really need to bring in some quality to help them do that with five long months still left ahead.
However, whilst January provides some excellent opportunities to invest, it’s important to remember just how much quality the Toffees already have in their ranks – and there’s a handful of players our landlord thinks think should be asking Koeman for more playing time.
Poor form has certainly contributed to these players getting dropped, but their talent is clear for all to see – and Koeman would be wise to give them once last chance.
So with that in mind, here’s 2 Everton players who should ask the manager for more minutes on the pitch…
Gerard Deulofeu
It’s long since been a battle of the wingers down at Goodison Park and the man who is missing out more often than not right now is Gerard Deulofeu.
The pacey Spanish flanker has featured only 13 times this season, compared to the 21 appearances that have been notched up by Belgian winger Kevin Mirallas.
It’s been a little tough going on Deulofeu, who still has a lot to offer this Everton team down that right-hand side. It’s important he keeps training hard in order to prove to his manager that he’s still a good option going forward.
Tom Cleverley
He was once tipped as one of the brightest young English midfielders we’ve seen in years but things have really slowed up for Everton man Tom Cleverley.
He’s struggling for game time at Goodison Park this season and with Gareth Barry outshining him so often in the middle-of-the-park, we really haven’t seen enough of him to judge his improvement.
The former United man should be asking Koeman for more game-time in the very near future or he should seriously consider a move away from the club.
