Looking back on the summer transfer window it’s safe to say Everton were one of the busiest clubs with our resident Toffees fans here in the Transfer Tavern delighted with the way they tried to compete with the biggest clubs in the league.
Buoyed by the fact that they had new investors and of course the wealth of riches the new Premier League TV deal affords all of the top-flight clubs the Toffees were able to make big strides in the market, helped out by selling John Stones to Manchester City.
They were able to keep hold of the likes of Romelu Lukaku whilst they also signed Ashley Williams and Yannick Bolasie for this season.
Though the fees they shelled out for some of their summer arrivals raised eyebrows amongst certain supporters in the Tavern, Koeman looks to be bringing out the best in them.
There’s plenty of high-value players in their squad now, then, but some players’ values according to Transfermarkt, may surprise you.
Here are THREE of the most surprising…
James McCarthy £14.45m
According to the list, McCarthy is the fourth most valuable player Everton have in their squad which he may want to tell Ronald Koeman with him not getting the game time he would want.
The Irishman has suffered with injuries this season but even when playing and fully fit it’s hard to see how he ranks so highly in this regard.
Now, he needs to show us all why.
Ramiro Funes Mori £10.2m
Funes Mori just isn’t that good a defender so it’s a surprise that he holds such a high price.
He’s never really put in a performance where you’ve gone, ‘wow that was a top defensive display’ and he’s firmly behind Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka in the Everton pecking order.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see other centre-backs come into the club and knock him down further either.
Oumar Niasse £10.2m
Niasse is easily one of the most terrible signings made in Premier League history but he seems to be holding his value somehow.
He’s yet to score a goal for the Everton senior side since his move in January and it’s unlikely he ever will the way Ronald Koeman speaks about him.
He’s valued higher than Idrissa Gueye in this list and that caused some outcry here in the Transfer Tavern.
