The West Ham boss has transformed the Hammers into a real force over the last couple of years, with the club now firmly established as a European-battling force in the Premier League.
There are often heated debates amongst the West Ham faithful here in the Tavern over who is their best player, with obvious candidates like Dimitri Payet often mentioned.
Payet is obviously a stunning footballer – but West Ham are a team of 11 top quality players, each playing an absolutely crucial role in the club’s success in recent years.
In fact, our landlord thinks there are a number of West Ham stars that deserve much more credit from the Hammers faithful.
With that said, here are THREE West Ham players that are incredibly underrated – Agreed?
Cheikhou Kouyate
Since Cheikhou Kouyate joined West Ham in 2014, he has become an absolutely vital cog in the West Ham midfield machine.
It is a testament to his consistency that he has managed to bag nearly 70 league appearances since his debut, adjusting to life in the Premier League with ease.
However, despite his success so far – he is often overlooked in favour of some of West Ham’s more prolific stars, even by the Hammers faithful in the Tavern.
He has been every bit as good as Dimitri Payet since he joined the club, but the pair are rarely ever mentioned in the same sentence.
He doesn’t provide game-changing moments or spectacular goals; but his role within the West Ham side is absolutely crucial. And he doesn’t get enough credit for the work that he does.
Winston Reid
Winston Reid has become an absolutely crucial member of the West Ham defensive line since joining the club in 2010.
Our landlord reckons that he’s the perfect central defender; strong in the tackle, great in the air and enough pace to cover even the most deadly of offensive forwards.
He is a quiet and understated member of the West Ham team, but every week he puts in a top performance without fail.
He is rarely ever a 9/10 or a 10/10 – but you will never see Winston Reid put in a bad performance – and that is exactly why he is so crucial to West Ham’s aspirations this season.
Mark Noble
Amongst the West Ham faithful here in the Football Transfer Tavern, Mark Noble is considered a hero. Maybe even one of the greatest footballers to ever live…
Whilst that certainly isn’t true, Mark Noble is a player that is criminally underrated by everyone outside of the West Ham faithful, and it is very difficult to see why.
Noble has been a crucial part of the West Ham set up for years, and despite the English midfielder now approaching his 30’s – he is only getting better.
In recent years, there have been calls for Noble to become a regular in the England side – but he has continually been rebuffed by whoever has been in the England hot seat. Our landlord thinks that they’re missing out on a real star.
Outside of the West Ham fans – Noble is very underrated.
