Tottenham Hotspur breathed a huge sigh of relief at the full-time whistle last night after they scored two late goals to secure three vital points in their bid to reach the knockout phase of the Champions League.
With just one point to show from their opening three fixtures, Tottenham went into their midweek fixture knowing that nothing less than three points would do.
But Tottenham supporters rapidly began to ponder over a nightmare group stage exit when Luuk de Jong picked up where he left off from two weeks ago by netting after just 2 minutes at Wembley.
It was a goal which stunned the home crowd and made for a nervy 90 minutes of football, but Paulo Gazzaniga wasn’t showing any signs of nerves on his Champions League debut.
Indeed, at the beginning of the second-half, the rapid Hirving Lozano sprinted towards the Tottenham stopper as he shaped to kick the ball long, but Gazzaniga showed ice-cold composure to Cruyff turn away from the onrushing Mexico international – a flamboyant touch of swagger which had the supporters hearts in their mouths for a brief moment.
In response to the stunning moment of skill, the supporters expressed a strong mix of enthusiasm and relief on Twitter.
Judging by the reaction, it’s fair to say that the already popular Gazzaniga further endeared himself to the supporters with his cheeky moment of madness.
