Newcastle United supporters have been reasonably buoyant in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at West Brom on Tuesday night, thus ending a run of four straight Premier League defeats.
Rafa Benitez’s men had made a solid start to the new season upon return to the top-flight by winning four of their opening nine league games, but defeats to Burnley, Bournemouth, Manchester United, and Watford somewhat checked their momentum, and in turn saw them fall into the bottom half of the table. And things didn’t look particularly good at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night either as goals from Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Field gave the Baggies a 2-0 lead, yet the Magpies fought back admirably with a Ciaran Clark header alongside an own goal from Jonny Evans securing a point for the North East giants.
Thus, there have been many upbeat Newcastle supporters in the Tavern in the last few hours, many of whom are now looking forward to their side’s trip to champions Chelsea on Saturday in the lunchtime kick-off.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Magpies fans to get their teeth into, not least recent news coming out of Tuesday’s opponents West Brom as they have officially confirmed the appointment of former Newcastle chief Alan Pardew as their new manager.
The 56-year-old spent four years in charge at St James’ Park between 2010 and 2014, in which time he won 71 of his 185 games at the helm, helping them to an excellent fifth place finish in the Premier League back in 2012.
And the ex-Crystal Palace and West Ham manager has now officially replaced Tony Pulis at the Hawthorns, with John Carver joining him as assistant at the Midlands outfit.
And the appointment of the former Newcastle duo has stimulated quite an emphatic response from Magpies supporters on Twitter…
Pardew being #WBA‘s manager is one thing.
But John Carver is his assistant. They’ll take the PL by storm!
