So far this summer, Southampton have brought in Jannik Vestergaard, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Stuart Armstrong and Angus Gunn, while Dusan Tadic, Sofiane Boufal and Guido Carrillo have all left the club.
And manager Mark Hughes has confirmed he wants to make more signings before the transfer window closes shut next month, but can only do so once others join Tadic, Boufal and Carrillo out of the St. Mary’s exit door (via Sky Sports).
So with that in mind, which Southampton players could be moved on in order to generate funds for more new arrivals?
Jordy Clasie has not been able to make the impact that was expected of him after he was brought in by former manager Ronald Koeman to replace Morgan Schneiderlin back in the summer of 2015.
Clasie has since had a loan spell with Club Brugge, and Southampton are now keen to sell the 27-year-old on a permanent deal.
According to Sky Sports, Clasie’s former side Feyenoord are interested in bringing him back on loan, but the Daily Mirror (via HITC) reports the Saints want to recoup the £8m they paid for the Netherlands international.
Nathan Redmond made a good start to life at St. Mary’s and played a key role for Claude Puel when he was Southampton boss.
However, it has gone pretty downhill for Redmond since Puel’s departure with the 24-year-old only managing to score one Premier League goal throughout the entire of last season.
Nevertheless, Redmond still possesses a lot of quality and if Hughes does not see him as pivotal to his plans, then the England international could catch a decent fee for the club.
Like Redmond, Manolo Gabbiadini thrived in the early days of his Southampton career but has dropped off dramatically since.
The Italy international has struggled to show the goalscoring form he displayed when he first arrived in the country, and could be sacrificed in order for a new striker to be brought in.
A move back to Serie A could be on the cards, although Southampton may find it difficult to avoid making a loss on the former Napoli man.
