Spurs have once again come up short in the title race this season, and many are now beginning to question just whether or not Mauricio Pochettino can lead them to any sort of trophy.

The Argentinian has led Spurs to plenty of ‘nearly’ moments, but remains without silverware despite getting his side playing some impressive stuff and becoming one of the most watched teams in England for neutrals.

However, our Spurs punters here in the Tavern are beginning to get a little restless, and they are dying to see their club really go out into the transfer market and sign some quality players who can finally guide them towards that elusive trophy.

Attacking wise, Spurs seem pretty capable, with Harry Kane leading the line, but this season has seen them look somewhat shaky at the back for one reason or another, and our landlord thinks a new central defender should be high on the agenda this summer for Pochettino.

With that in mind, we’ve identified the defender we believe that Spurs need to make their move for this summer.

Jamaal Lascelles

The Newcastle defender has been impressive in his form this season for the Magpies, and has really shown signs of developing into one of the top centre halves in the country.

Strong, powerful, and quick, Lascelles has really come into his own and has thrived in a leadership role at Newcastle, propelling himself into the limelight with some impressive displays from the back.

Lascelles has played a key role in ensuring Newcastle remain in the top flight, and a move to a club challenging for honours will surely not be too far away. With Spurs needing new players and always keen to add young talent to the ranks, the former Nottingham Forest man could prove to be a shrewd addition for the club this summer.
