If Tottenham Hotspur are to go one further next season and achieve some domestic success in terms of silverware, they must surely make a few additions to the squad. Although their decision to not spend over the last two transfer windows has not been too unkind to them, there must be a sense of frustration from fans about what could have been if they did dip into their pockets at some point.
An area that Mauricio Pochettino is going to have to look at reinforcing and strengthening in the summer is in the defensive midfield region of the pitch, and it appears one name continues to get linked with a switch to north London.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Franck Kessie appears to still be a player of interest for Tottenham in the summer, with Tuttomercatoweb once suggesting they were keen on him.
It is claimed in the latest report that Spurs would have to fork out around €40million (£34.2m) to convince AC Milan to sell the Ivorian with concerns regarding his recent behaviour and their own financial problems – who are likely to sign him permanently from Atalanta for around €20m (£17.1m), per Calciomercato.
Tottenham are expected to have some competition for the 22-year-old’s signature though, with both Arsenal and West Ham allegedly keen on him as well.
The Verdict:
With a vacancy open in the defensive midfield department following the winter departure of Mousa Dembele, Kessie should be a serious contender for Tottenham to consider bringing to the club and help solve the issue for Pochettino.
The Ivory Coast international has been so impressive for Milan this season that if they did not have financial concerns, it would be unlikely that they would want to depart with the 22-year-old, as the behavioural problem appears to have been a new thing.
What would make Kessie an even better addition is the fact that he could also be a younger version of Victor Wanyama, whose own Tottenham future is very much in doubt, as he offers plenty of intensity and energy with his game, whilst he is technically gifted and has a physical presence that is extremely commanding when on the ball.
Whilst he rarely misses a tackle whilst in the front of the backline, he is also fairly useful going forward as he can chip in with moments of creativity as well as the odd goal here and then.
Daniel Levy will need to open the cheque book to land a player of Kessie’s ability, however, a price of €40m (£34.2m) may be a steal for Tottenham and one that could be a major coup like so many before him in the short-term future.
