The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Mauricio Pochettino to bring in a few new faces in January. The Lilywhites have had a tough few weeks in the Premier League, and with optimism at a low point for the first time in recent memory, it’s clear that a few new signings could help to improve the outlook of the Tottenham faithful.
Fortunately, then, a recent report from Spanish outlet El Gol could be just what they’re looking for. According to El Gol, Tottenham could be given the chance to get Barcelona defender Jordi Alba in January, with the Catalan club said to be keen to move the defender on. However, the opportunity is only likely to come if they find a replacement, and the man they are said to be targeting is Danny Rose.
Tottenham, then, could be the benefactors of somewhat of a swap deal, with both parties likely keen to move their respective players on. Rose has enjoyed a poor few weeks, with Mauricio Pochettino clearly not entirely trusting of the Englishman. Whether they would be interested in a move for Alba remains to be seen, but it’s clear what he would bring to the side.
A left-sided defender known for his pace, Alba is undoubtedly one of the quickest players currently in Europe, and so the attacking edge that he would bring to the Premier League from defence would be huge. He’s also solid at the back, often using that pace to track back quickly and efficiently. He’d be a good fit in Mauricio Pochettino’s system at Tottenham, with his passing also a great attribute.
He’s rated at £28.8 million by Transfer Markt, which would represent good value for Tottenham given that Danny Rose is rated at just over £3 million less, with Transfer Markt valuing him at £25.2 million.
Landlord’s Verdict
Tottenham may look to get rid of Danny Rose in January, and a move outside of England would benefit them in the sense that they won’t be forced to come up against the defender in England.
Alba, if he is offered, would be a natural replacement, and his pace and technique would fit in well in the Premier League.
It would save Tottenham the added stress of needing to find a replacement mid-season, too, and so it’s a deal worth considering.
