According to a Football Insider recruitment source, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had a ‘sizeable’ bid for Southampton striker Danny Ings knocked back in the summer, with the south coast club now offering him a lucrative new contract in order to fend off suitors.
Ings, who scored an impressive 25 goals in all competitions last season for the Saints, was one of the strikers on Levy’s target list before the club secured a deal to sign Carlos Vinicius on loan with an option to buy.

As well as the Englishman, Habib Diallo, Arkadiusz Milik, Andrea Belotti and others were touted as candidates (Alasdair Gold), but Football Insider revealed that Spurs did make an approach for the 28-year-old.
Indeed, as per this latest update, Levy had a ‘sizeable’ bid for Ings knocked back swiftly, with Southampton now taking steps to tie down their star man in a bid to fend off more future interest.
Tottenham have apparently been monitoring Ings’ situation as far back as January, with pundit Paul Robinson hinting that the move ‘would be crazy‘.

Described as the Premier League side’s ‘main man’ by Robinson, it would arguably be head-turning if Southampton did opt to sell the player, but a move for Ings may well have paid dividends according to other pundits.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Darren Bent claimed Ings would be the ‘perfect fit’ for Spurs, despite his would-be lack of game-time behind Kane.
Having snapped up Vinicius, Lilywhites may not be too concerned over missing out on the Southampton man, but you could still argue he would have been quite the snip for Tottenham.
