Tottenham eye deal for 27-year-old defender

This has been the last name to tick off the list for the Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…

Tottenham have been anything but consistent this season, but one thing you can rely on at White Hart Lane as of late is their commitment to renewing the contracts of players already at the club.

So far this season the likes of Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen have all agreed to extended deals – and it would appear that there are more to come.

According to the Evening Standard, next in line for a new deal is Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld – who has been seriously impressive since his arrival in 2015.

They are also reporting that Spurs are keen to push Alderweireld to the top tier bracket at the club on a weekly wage of around £70,000.

Should Alderweireld sign, he will join his defensive partners Vertonghen, Walker and Rose in sealing a new contract – with Pochettino seemingly keen to ensure that his impressive side remains together for years to come.

It’s not the only Alderweireld-related boost for Tottenham either, with the news that the Belgian looks set to become available once again for Mauricio Pochettino after missing the last few weeks with an injury. The Daily Mail are reporting that he is back in contention – which is great news for Tottenham – who have struggled as of late in his absence.

Alderweireld has made close to 50 league appearances since his 2015 arrival – signalling just how important he is to Pochettino’s title hopes.

The Tottenham fans in the Tavern are delighted with this news…
