The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for their side to spend big this summer. They’ve fallen away from their typical title-challenging form this season, and whilst their Champions League chances still remain high, it’s clear that Mauricio Pochettino could do with some extra reinforcements.
Fortunately, then, the Mirror are reporting that Spurs are looking to provide him with exactly that.
Tottenham aren’t blessed with much offensive depth, despite the recent arrival of Lucas Moura, with the Brazilan one of only a few midfielders that places an emphasis on driving runs. Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, for example, generally rely more on passing and moving, whilst the likes of Moura and Erik Lamela tend to run with the ball more often. Zaha is definitely a player that fits into that latter camp.
For his part, Zaha has been a crucial player for Palace over the last few years, earmarking himself as undoubtedly their most important player. He provides a real goal threat, having bagged 4 goals this year and 7 last year, whilst his expertly crafted passes and runs allow the Eagles many an attacking opportunity.
His valuation is certainly sky high, but in terms of raw talent and proven Premier League quality, he would be a decent choice.
Landlord’s Verdict
Zaha impressed, prior to suffering an injury, in a Crystal Palace team that has struggled for much of the campaign, and so that definitely deserves some credit.
Pochettino is clearly a big fan, and it’s easy to see where he would fit into the team, though that price-tag is certainly something to consider.
That being said, if Daniel Levy has cash to burn, he’d struggle to do better than Zaha.
