A number of Tottenham fans expressed their disappointment at the exclusion of teenage centre-forward Troy Parrott from the squad for today’s FA Cup clash.
Despite Harry Kane being ruled out through injury until April, the 17-year-old striker didn’t even make the bench for Jose Mourinho’s side for the 1-1 draw at Southampton, with winger Lucas Moura starting at centre-forward. While the youngster could only watch from afar, Spurs did not threaten much against the home side at St Mary’s, managing just eight shots to the Saints’ 10.
Tottenham were culpable of missing some gilt-edged chances against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, with Heung-min Son dragging an early shot wide after being played in by Dele Alli and then being caught offside as Giovani Lo Celso’s 28th-minute goal was disallowed by VAR. Moura also passed up a good opportunity shortly before half-time. [via Sky Sports]
Parrott has so far made just two first team appearances for Spurs, featuring in the Carabao Cup against Colchester and getting five minutes off the bench in the 5-0 win over Burnley last month (as per TransferMarkt). Earlier this week, Mourinho said that the Republic of Ireland underage international was not ready to fill the void left by Kane’s absence (as per Irish Examiner), although these Tottenham fans on Twitter disagreed after seeing their team held by the Saints:
Seriously have to question why Mou didn’t bring Troy Parrott. I’m tired of Lucas

I don’t understand why Parrott is not on the bench, what’s to lose, other than the tie?

Just do not understand why Parrott is not on the bench even if he’s not totally ready he can’t b any worse than the way Son and Moura are playing at the moment 🤷♀️

I’m really not sure why Parrott isn’t on the bench considering we don’t even have a striker on the pitch

Lucas has 1 goal in 9 games (Championship side). I don’t care if he’s ready or not, Parrott deserves a start with pathetic numbers like that. Son really off form too atm.

Do you think Parrott should be getting game-time at Tottenham with Kane out injured? Could they have done with him against Southampton today? Comment below with your views!
