Tottenham fans online aren’t too happy after their club confirmed that an agreement had been found between Alfie Whiteman and the club over a new deal. The young goalkeeper isn’t all that well known among supporters, but that isn’t what is generating frustration.
Indeed, Tottenham recently confirmed the news over on Twitter, and whilst you’d expect supporters to be relatively pleased, many of them are anything but. Instead, they’re viewing the agreement as a bit of a waste of time, given that a number of Tottenham’s key men are yet to are fresh terms for the London club.

Players like Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld are yet to agree new contracts at Tottenham, and until that happens, it’s fair to say that uncertainty will reign regarding their long-term futures.
Given the context, then, the point that fans are making is why are Tottenham agreeing terms with another goalkeeper when there is so much work to do with the key members of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad? It’s clear that fans aren’t happy, with one particularly passionate fan calling for new owners, whilst most others are simply demanding some news on big names like Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld.
It’s certainly fair to see Tottenham fans frustrated. Spurs have a lot of depth between the sticks, and it’s clear that there are more pressing concerns. Signing down young talent is important, but it’s more important to tie down your key men, and Spurs haven’t done that yet. Perhaps that will change at the coming weeks, but this, combined with their mixed form on the field, doesn’t make for pleasant reading for fans.
