The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the club’s financial results, pleading for their club to pay 29-year-old defender, Toby Alderweireld his desired wage considering the club’s impressive profits. The club tweeted a link to the Spurs website for the fans to see the financial results for the last year. Alderweireld has fallen out of favour in N17 over the last few months as a combination of injury and contract dispute have kept his game-time to a minimum this season.

The Spurs fans propping our bar up have consigned themselves to the fact that life at Tottenham will have to go on without Toby Alderweireld from next season. The central defender, who has proved to be one of the best in the league over the last few seasons, has seen contract talks grind to a halt as the club are unwilling to break their strict wage structure preventing any player from earning over £100,000 per week.
Tottenham have become one of England’s biggest hitters over the last two seasons since signing the Belgian, securing Champions League football in back-to-back seasons for the first time in their history and recording their two best Premier League finishes of 2nd and 3rd. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have also had the best defensive record in the Premier League over the last two seasons, hammering home the importance of Alderweireld to the Tottenham backline as the 29-year-old looks set to move on in just a few months time.
