It was an emotional day in North London yesterday. For the first time since May 2016, the Lilywhites went home. It may have only been a U18 clash in a test event, but Tottenham fans absolutely adored the fact that they could go home, and when young J’Neil Bennett opened the scoring at the new stadium, the Lilywhites were ecstatic.

It was always going to be up for debate and question who would bag the first ever goal at the Spurs New Stadium. The first competitive senior goal is still to come, yet no one will be able to take the fact away from 17-year-old J’Neil Bennett that he opened the scoring at the famous new ground. What a goal it was too, as the youngster picked the ball up wide on the left, cut inside and fired an unstoppable effort into the far corner.
It will be a moment that Bennett will have been dreaming of, and as he took to Twitter after the game his notifications exploded with delighted Lilywhites. As well as lauding Bennett, who has seven goals in his ten U18 Premier league appearances this season, as a history maker, they were also quick to point out that the 17-year-old has a real future at the club, and can’t wait to see more of the winger, especially as Mauricio Pochettino was on hand and watching closely yesterday.
