Spurs fans on social media have been discussing who is to blame after Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea, with plenty pointing the finger towards ‘Championship player’ Ben Davies.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, full-backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker were the secret to so much success, but fast-forward a few years and it is now a major problem position for Spurs. While Japhet Tanganga has performed admirably as an out-of-position full-back when called upon, none of Davies, Serge Aurier or the loaned out Danny Rose have proven themselves worthy of a guaranteed starting place, and Davies was truly abysmal vs Chelsea.
The Wales international started as a left-wing-back in front of Jan Vertonghen, and gave the ball away more than any other player on the pitch. Per Sofascore, Davies lost possession a whopping 25 times and completed just 19 passes at a rate of 54%.
