The Argentine boss opened up to the Evening Standard and other outlets in a press conference before the Audi Cup about the aftermath of the Champions League final, in which Spurs lost 2-0 to Premier League rivals Liverpool. Pochettino said: “I took a train from Madrid to Barcelona the day after. I spent 10 days in my home and didn’t want to go out. Yes, it was tough because you nearly touched the glory.”
Of course, the heartbreak experienced on that day was felt across the Tottenham fanbase all over the world, and fans took to social media to express their own stories and feelings following the full-time whistle in Madrid. Here is what some fans had to say on Twitter…
I’m still devastated by that night, but coming to terms with it we had some great nights along the way and then memories will be with me for life! Let’s just hope we use the pain as a team to spur us on and take that final step to glory!
