Tottenham: Fans slam Serge Aurier’s tackle on Sergio Aguero during Manchester City victory

Many Tottenham fans have slammed defender Serge Aurier after a tackle he made during his side’s 2-0 victory against Manchester City on Sunday.

The 27-year-old played 90 minutes of a game that saw VAR controversy and red cards as the north London side took down the reigning champions at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Goals from debutant Steven Bergwijn and Heung-min Son secured all three points, but it was not a perfect afternoon for all of Jose Mourinho’s players.

Aurier, who is valued at £18m by TransferMarkt, conceded a first-half penalty with the help of the video assistant referee after a rash challenge on the Citizens’ Sergio Aguero, which shot-stopper Hugo Lloris saved after Ilkay Gundogan stepped up. This is not the first occasion that his tackling has been scrutinised. He was slaughtered by fans after his team were hammered 7-2 by Bayern Munich earlier in the season, and similar views were echoed once more. One fan said that he would be a liability even in a pub team.
