The news on the contract front has gone cold at Tottenham. The likes of Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld have to be a top priority when it comes to getting new contracts, and with the Belgian defender, talks have rumbled on for a while. However, after some stellar performances and no signs of unhappiness, the fans are again calling for a deal.

The Belgian defender has proven to be a consummate professional in his time at Tottenham. It was around this time last year that his initial contract talks broke down, and around this time that the defender fell out of favour with Mauricio Pochettino due to the combined issues of contract struggles and injury problems. However, he’s not worked his way back and has been a key figure this season.
Despite this, it seems that striking up a deal with Alderweireld is easier said than done. The Belgian’s original deal was set to expire this summer, however, a one-year extension was activated that also saw a clause come into the deal containing a £25 million release clause. If a new contract arrangement isn’t put into place between now and the summer then that fee will surely be taken up by one of his suitors, and the last thing the fans want is to lose the Belgian.

Doesn't sound like a man wanting to leave, just pay him what he's worth and he will stay!

The Lilywhites would do anything to see Alderweireld renew his deal and would love to see many more years of the ex-Ajax man partnering up with Jan Vertonghen.
