Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent believes that Ryan Sessegnon will become an extremely important player for the club in the future.

The 19-year-old joined Spurs from Fulham in the summer transfer window and has recently broken into the first team, starting in each of their last four games in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
And it seems that his performances in the team have caught the eye of Bent, who has been heaping praise on him and has suggested that he is one of the best young English players in the game at the moment.
When discussing Sessegnon, Bent told Football Insider: “I like him, I like him when he plays left wing-back, a little bit of both. I really rate Ryan Sessegnon and he’s done well in the appearances that he’s made.
“I’m a big fan of his and for the future I think he’s going to be a massive player for Spurs. We know Spurs like to sign young, English players and I think they’ve got one of the best ones there.”
Bent is right to suggest that Sessegnon has great potential and he is also right in saying that left wing-back could be the position where he will be at his best as opposed to just a standard left-back.
Indeed one of the 19-year-old’s key attributes is his attacking threat, after all this is a player who scored 15 Championship goals in one season for Fulham in 17/18 (Transfermarkt).
Added to that, he is also not the best out and out defender yet and last season in the Premier League he averaged just 0.7 tackles per game and, in total, he won just 37% of his duels (SofaScore).
Therefore, giving him more of a license to get forward as a wing-back will take some of his defensive responsibilities away and allow him to contribute more going forward, which will surely ensure that Spurs get the best out of the England under-21 international.
At such a young age there is still plenty of scope for him to improve too, so if Jose Mourinho continues to give him game time then he could well go on to become a mainstay in the Spurs team for years to come.
