Tottenham Hotspur: Fans blast club’s Star Wars tweet about Juan Foyth

Many Tottenham supporters ripped into a post from the club’s official account celebrating Star Wars Day with a Spurs twist.

Traditionally, film fans all around the world join in to commemorate George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise on May 4th and the social media admin clearly felt it was the perfect opportunity to have a bit of fun on Twitter.

The Lilywhites tweeted a tongue-in-cheek message in tribute to the famous saga, saying “May the Foyth be with you” in a nod to young defender Juan Foyth.

It is fair to say the 22-year-old has largely failed to live up to expectations and has only made one appearance in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho so far, as the youngster is at the back of the queue behind the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen (Transfermarkt).

Having arrived in North London from Club Estudiantes de La Plata in 2017, Foyth was regarded as a protege of former boss Mauricio Pochettino (as per Football Insider), but has struggled to make much of an impact so far under Mourinho.

Evidently, the club’s tweet hasn’t gone down well with a large number of the THFC faithful, as many blasted the admin’s efforts. Some even directed their ire at the centre-back. One fan dubbed the attempt as “cringeworthy” and another simply added “get in the bin.”
