Tottenham may have been beaten 1-0 by Liverpool on Saturday but they left the game with some positives. Promisingly, one of those was the performance of Japhet Tanganga who made his Premier League debut, starting at centre-back. Indeed, the 20-year-old clearly impressed fans by the look of their reactions on Twitter the next day.
The Englishman was rated 7/10 by the Sun for his performance and they described one block he made as ‘heroic’ and said he looked ‘comfortable’ on his debut. Drilling deeper into the stats, he actually made the second-highest number of tackles and interceptions (per WhoScored), as well as the third-highest number of clearances.
He was also asked to play at left-back later in the game, showing his versatility and, with his contract ending at the end of this season, he’ll be hoping Saturday will have helped him secure a new deal.
Plenty of fans clearly think he deserves one, looking at one of the club’s official Twitter account’s posts. They posted a few pictures from the game and said Saturday was a ‘momentous’ day for Japhet and some fans replied to tell the club to offer him a contract and start playing him more.
