Tottenham Hotspur: Fans divided on latest transfer news as club is linked with Nemanja Matic

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic on a free transfer in the summer window, according to a report from Football London.

However, any deal would depend on whether or not the Red Devils decide to trigger a one-year extension clause in the Serbian’s current contract.

It is thought that Spurs would like to sign a defensive minded midfielder in the summer, with Victor Wanyama out of favour having not played much at all this season (Transfermarkt), whilst England international Eric Dier has been on the bench more often than not recently, suggesting his manager has some doubts. Also, Matic has previously worked with Jose Mourinho during their time together at Old Trafford and at Chelsea, so he is certainly a player that the Portuguese rates.

The 31-year-old struggled for game-time earlier in the season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but, due to injuries to fellow midfielders Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba, he has featured regularly of late, starting in five of their last six Premier League outings (Transfermarkt).

It seems that the Spurs fans are divided when it comes to potentially signing Matic, however. Some feel that he would be a decent addition, whilst others aren’t keen on signing the ex-Chelsea man at all. Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
