Tottenham Hotspur are planning to make a bid for Getafe centre-back Djene Dakonam, that is according to a report from The Sun.
The report suggests that Spurs will go head-to-head with north London rivals Arsenal for the 28-year-old’s signature, whilst Everton, Crystal Palace and AFC Bournemouth are also thought to have an interest in him.
Getafe value the player at £22 million and have already reportedly rejected a bid from Monaco which stood at £12.8 million. He is currently contracted until 2023 at the La Liga club, but those looking to sign him are keen to get him as cheaply as possible due to his age.
One thing is for sure, the Togolese defender has certainly been impressive in Spain in recent years. Indeed, he was named in the La Liga Team of the Year in both the 17/18 and 18/19 campaigns, alongside Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos one year and Barcelona ace Gerard Pique in the other (The Sun).
He has been a regular in the team this year, starting in 17 of their 19 league matches and helping them to five clean sheets (Transfermarkt) and a healthy position of seventh in the La Liga table (BBC Sport).
However, despite this, it seems that Spurs fans are divided on potentially signing Dakonam. Some have been impressed with his performances at Getafe and feel that he would be a good addition, whilst others aren’t as keen. Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
